UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI
OFFICE OF STUDENT-ATHLETE ACADEMIC SUPPORT

Ole Miss athletes not only have the opportunity to play in one of the best conferences in the nation, they also attend a university that is world-renowned for its academics.

Ole Miss has produced 24 Rhodes Scholars, a total which ranks first in Mississippi and top 10 among American public universities.

Under Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Support Karen Schiferl, the Office of Student-Athlete Academic Support has made great strides in improving the environment for Ole Miss student-athletes. Schiferl is assisted by full-time academic counselors German Bello, Drew Clinton, Brandi Laval and J Roberson. Will Rote serves as a learning specialist.

The mission of the Office of Student-Athlete Academic Support is to provide quality developmental and need-based programs to help student-athletes become independent and self-reliant learners. In an environment that promotes student development, the staff provides support for all student-athletes from the time they arrive on campus through graduation. The staff provides resources, experience and knowledge empowering each student-athlete to reach his/her academic, career, and personal potential. The OSAAS staff pursues this mission by promoting academic success with integrity, strict adherence to university, SEC, and NCAA rules, and a dedication to excellence.

Among all sports, Ole Miss had 82 student-athletes named to SEC Academic Honor Rolls during 2004-05, and numerous athletes garnered national academic honors from various organizations. Rebel football player Rob Robertson was named the H. Boyd McWhorter SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

With University of Mississippi athletics taking its place amongst the best in the nation, the Student-Athlete Services staff hopes that Ole Miss graduates of today have a great impact in the future of tomorrow.
